The term NEET stands for young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training. While it may appear to be just another government statistic, it represents something far more important. It represents hundreds of thousands of individual stories. Young people with hopes, ambitions and potential who, for many different reasons, have become disconnected from education, work or training.
It is easy to assume that someone who is NEET simply does not want to work. In reality, that assumption is often completely wrong.
Many young people desperately want an opportunity. What they lack is confidence, direction, practical experience or someone who believes in them enough to help them take that first step.
That is exactly where I’M MORE believes change begins.
Every Story Is Different
No two young people arrive at the same place through exactly the same journey.
Some have experienced anxiety or poor mental health.
Some have struggled within traditional education.
Others have caring responsibilities, family challenges or financial pressures.
Many simply leave education without understanding what opportunities are available to them or without believing they have anything valuable to offer.
Labelling every young person with the same description ignores the complexity of their individual circumstances.
I’M MORE believes people should be seen before they are judged.
Confidence Often Comes Before Employment
One of the biggest misconceptions is that employment automatically creates confidence.
In many cases, the opposite is true.
Confidence is often what allows someone to apply for a job, attend an interview, communicate effectively and believe they deserve success.
Without confidence, opportunities can feel intimidating rather than exciting.
That is why I’M MORE focuses on helping people discover their strengths before asking them to compete in the job market.
When someone begins believing in themselves, their behaviour changes.
They communicate differently.
They present themselves differently.
They begin recognising possibilities that previously felt out of reach.
Employers Are Facing Challenges Too
Across the UK, employers regularly report difficulties recruiting reliable, motivated people with the right attitude and employability skills.
At the same time, thousands of young people are searching for opportunities but struggle to demonstrate their potential on a CV alone.
This creates a gap that benefits nobody.
Businesses continue searching for talent.
Young people continue searching for opportunity.
I’M MORE exists to help bridge that gap.
By supporting both employers and young people, stronger and more sustainable employment relationships can be created.
More Than Getting Someone Into Work
Helping somebody secure a job is only one part of the journey.
Long-term success depends upon developing resilience, communication, responsibility, professionalism and the confidence to continue learning throughout life.
Employment should be the beginning of someone’s future, not simply the end of a government programme.
That is why I’M MORE places equal importance on personal development and employability.
We believe the strongest careers are built on strong people.
Discover. Believe. Become.
Everything we do is built around three simple words.
Discover. Believe. Become.
First, people discover strengths they may never have recognised.
Then they begin believing in themselves and what is possible.
Finally, they become equipped to move forward with greater confidence, stronger skills and a clearer sense of direction.
Transformation rarely happens overnight.
It happens one conversation, one opportunity and one decision at a time.
Working Together to Change Futures
Supporting young people cannot be left to one organisation.
Government, employers, schools, colleges, training providers, charities, local authorities and communities all have an important role to play.
I’M MORE has been created to work alongside these organisations, helping connect people, opportunities and practical support rather than replacing the excellent work already taking place.
When organisations collaborate instead of working in isolation, everybody benefits.
Most importantly, young people benefit.
