Sponsor A Desk, Change A Future: Chelmsford Businesses Asked To Help Build The I’M MORE Room

Local businesses, parents, professionals and community leaders are being invited to donate equipment, expertise, time or sponsorship to help create a new environment where young people can build confidence, skills and pathways into work.

Chelmsford, Essex, 5 July 2026: Chelmsford businessman and entrepreneur Bradley Chapman is calling on local companies, business owners and members of the community to help build The I’M MORE Room, a professionally equipped environment designed to support young people who are struggling to move into education, employment or training. The room will provide young people with somewhere positive and purposeful to go, rather than remaining isolated at home, repeatedly applying for jobs and receiving little or no response.

Through the I’M MORE movement, participants will be able to access laptops, workstations, digital tools, confidence development, communication training, career guidance, CV support, Video CV creation, employer insight and direct contact with people from a wide range of industries.

Chapman is now asking local businesses and supporters to help turn that vision into a physical reality.

“I have the vision, the experience and the determination to make this happen, but I cannot build the room alone.”

“We need desks, chairs, laptops, computer screens and practical equipment. We need business owners who are prepared to donate their time, share their expertise, speak to young people, open the doors to their workplaces or sponsor a place within the room.”

“Most importantly, we need people who believe that no young person should be left behind simply because they have not yet been given the opportunity to show what they can become.”

More Than A Desk

The Sponsor A Desk initiative will allow companies and individuals to help fund a fully equipped place within The I’M MORE Room.

Chapman says one sponsored desk should not be viewed as supporting only one person. Depending on how the room is used, a single workstation could potentially support six, ten, fifteen or even twenty young people over time as they attend workshops, complete training, prepare for interviews, develop professional profiles and connect with employers.

“A desk is not just a desk.”

“It can become the place where somebody creates their first professional CV, records their first Video CV, applies for the job that finally gives them a chance or discovers an industry they had never previously considered.”

“One business sponsoring one place could contribute to the transformation of many different lives.”

I’M MORE intends to recognise founding sponsors through its website, events, media activity and the physical room itself, while also giving businesses the opportunity to demonstrate a practical commitment to their local community and future workforce.

However, Chapman says the initiative is not only seeking financial support.

Local companies may be able to donate suitable laptops, computer monitors, desks, office chairs, keyboards, mice, cameras, microphones, software licences, training materials, professional services or access to workplace experiences.

Business leaders and experienced professionals can also contribute through mentoring, workshops, industry talks, mock interviews, career guidance and practical demonstrations of the skills employers need.

A Community Responsibility

Chapman believes many parents and families will understand the frustration young people can experience when attempting to enter the workplace for the first time.

A young person may submit dozens of applications without receiving an interview. Others may be told they lack experience, despite being unable to gain that experience without someone first giving them an opportunity.

“There will be mums, dads and grandparents across Chelmsford and Essex who have watched a young person they love struggle to find their place.”

“They may have seen confidence fall after repeated rejection. They may know what it is like to encourage somebody every morning when that person is beginning to believe there is no point trying again.”

“This is an opportunity for our community to say, ‘We see you. We have not forgotten you. We are prepared to stand beside you while you begin moving forward.’”

Chapman is also inviting people who have successfully built careers to consider giving something back. That could mean sharing an hour of professional experience, explaining how an industry works, reviewing a young person’s portfolio, providing a workplace visit or simply speaking honestly about the setbacks and lessons behind their own career.

“Young people need access to real people, real businesses and real opportunities.”

“They need to hear from somebody working in construction, marketing, technology, retail, property, healthcare, media, engineering, energy or professional services.”

“Sometimes one conversation can help somebody recognise a future they did not know existed.”

Supporting Employers As Well As Young People

I’M MORE is being developed not only to support young people, but also to reduce some of the uncertainty employers may feel when recruiting somebody with limited workplace experience.

Chapman is currently developing a young person through a supported employment pathway and understands the time, training, supervision and patience required.

He believes businesses are more likely to offer opportunities when young people arrive with stronger confidence, clearer communication, greater workplace awareness and continued support around them.

“Employers are being asked to give young people a chance, but we must also help those young people become better prepared for that chance.”

“The room will help bridge that gap. We will work on confidence, communication, digital capability, professional behaviour and visibility before asking an employer to take the next step.”

“This has to work for the young person and for the business.”

I’M MORE will seek input from local employers about the skills, attitudes and capabilities they need from future recruits. The movement will then use that insight to shape practical training and prepare participants for genuine local opportunities rather than simply providing generic advice.

A Local Beginning With Wider Potential

The first I’M MORE proof of concept will be created in Chelmsford.

The aim is to start with one room, a manageable number of participants and a committed network of local employers, sponsors and community supporters.

The programme will then measure engagement, confidence development, skills gained, Video CVs completed, interviews secured, work experience, employment outcomes and employer feedback.

Chapman believes that if the local model can demonstrate measurable human and commercial value, it could eventually attract wider support and be replicated in other parts of Essex and the United Kingdom.

“Every national movement has to begin somewhere.”

“Our beginning is Chelmsford. We will create the room, bring people together, record the outcomes and prove what can happen when a community decides to act.”

“A pebble dropped into water creates ripples far beyond the place where it first lands. We want Chelmsford to be that first point of impact.”

Media And Community Partners Invited

I’M MORE is also inviting newspapers, radio stations, broadcasters, podcasters and local media organisations to help share the story and connect the movement with businesses and families who may want to contribute.

Media partners could support the initiative through interviews, campaign coverage, community features, donated advertising, event promotion or by sharing the stories of young people whose lives begin to change through the programme.

“Every interview, every article and every conversation helps another person discover that this movement exists.”

“Media organisations have an extraordinary ability to connect people. They can help us reach the employer with an unused laptop, the parent who wants to volunteer, the company that could sponsor a desk or the young person who needs somewhere to turn.”

Ways To Support I’M MORE

Support events and community outreach

Help promote the movement through local media and professional networks

Chapman said every contribution, regardless of size, can help build the wider movement.

“Some people may be able to sponsor an entire workstation. Others may donate a chair, a laptop, an hour of their time or one valuable introduction. It all matters.”

“I am asking Chelmsford and Essex to help us build a room in which young people can discover their strengths, rebuild belief and become more capable of creating their own future. No one should be left behind. Not when there are people, businesses and communities with the ability to help.”

“Sponsor a desk. Donate your time. Share your knowledge. Open a door. Together, we can create the place where somebody’s future begins to change.”
